About Jan
Hi, I’m Jan.
I’m a DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer from Denmark. I’ve spent 15+ years building and breaking systems. These days I’m freelancing. Current focus on the now page.
How I got here
I wanted to make games. I landed in CRUD web development instead and stayed there for years.
I spent a decade in corporate environments. Lots of ceremony, little building.
I burned out for years, longer than I’d like to admit. I reconnected with tech in late 2025 after randomly opening X, seeing @madsmadsdk crushing it, and remembering I could build again.
Now I’m circling back to systems programming, graphics, and performance optimization. The stuff that makes computers do things, not just shuffle data around.
How I think
I have complete aphantasia - no mental imagery. No internal monologue either. It’s quiet in there.
I likely have autistic traits. Strengths: systems thinking, pattern recognition, architectural design. Weaknesses: meetings, ceremonies, corporate politics.
I think in structures and relationships. Code architecture makes sense to me in a way that social dynamics don’t.
What I like building
Tools that reduce chaos and help people in real situations.
Systems that are fast, understandable, and built to last.
Experiments that teach me something real about computers, not just frameworks.
What I care about
- Building tools that actually help people
- Technical challenges over process overhead
- Direct communication (say what you mean)
- Emergency response work - festival medical teams are where I feel most useful
- Exploration-phase work (the fun part before it becomes obligation)
Work style
I thrive on:
- Individual technical work
- Deep focus sessions
- Performance-aware programming
- Solving hard problems
I struggle with:
- Excessive meetings
- Process ceremonies
- Corporate bureaucracy
- Work that shifts from exploration to obligation
If you want to work together
- I take contracts that involve technical challenges, not process management
- I build tools for people who need them, not speculators
